Video Editing tips for a NonVideo Editing Person

Written by:

Hi: I'm Clara -- the growth marketer here at rfrd! Since I work for a video company, I am finding myself editing videos a lot. But, let me set the record straight -- I do not have a professional editing background -- but I have learned a few beginner tips that I wanted to share with our audience! If you're like me and want to (or are forced to) get into video editing but don't know where to start, here are some tips and websites that I recommend checking out!

  1. Cut the fat:  In our fast-paced, constantly connected world, people don't have time to watch lengthy videos. Our attention spans are similar to goldfish’s… So, in order to capture your audience's attention, make sure that your video is concise and easy to watch.
  2. Search for incorrect or outdated info: With so much misinformation floating around, it's crucial that you do your part to ensure that your videos are free of errors. Fortunately, editing out wrong information is relatively easy to do. While it may take a bit of extra time to get everything just right, the effort will be well worth it in the end. By ensuring that your videos are accurate, you'll help to make the world a better and more informed place.
  3. Spruce it up:  Add music and effects if necessary. If you feel like your video needs some extra flair, consider adding some light music or sound effects. However, don't go overboard – too much of either one can be distracting and take away from the overall message of your video. For music tips, check out this blog!

Top 3 Editing Resources for NonEditors:

  • iMovie
  • Descript
  • Filmora
  • DaVinci Resolve (is free, but a more complex editing software for a semi-experienced editor)

By following these simple tips, you'll be well on your way to creating customer testimonial videos that are both professional and engaging. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start editing!
